Each week thousands of people come to Atlanta Motor Speedway to enjoy the thrills of O'Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags, including Ruthie Norris Clevenger from Jonesboro.
"Right from the very beginning," said Norris Clevenger. "You can't beat the excitement of everything. They put on a great show and these guys work hard."
What she enjoys is pretty simple.
"Anything that goes fast and looks good," Norris Clevenger said. "Preferably a Chevy!"
And that's something Friday Night Drags offers plenty of, so it's no surprise that Norris Clevenger has been coming to the weekly drag races from the start.
"We're here at the start line all the time," Norris Clevenger said. "I have to fight for it sometimes but I'm here every week!
"It's right across from the tree so I can see them doing their burnout and when I'm taking video I get all of it."
The steadfast support for the racing she loves even led her to her husband, a racer that she met at Friday Night Drags.
"I met Billy (Clevenger) out here and we got married," Norris Clevenger said. "We've been married about two years and he's raced out here since day one also."
All told, this O'Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags super fan believes there's no better place to spend Friday nights during the summer.
"To me it's a good way to relax after a long week of work," Norris Clevenger said. "You cannot beat the price to get in and just come out to enjoy yourself."
This Friday night on top of a full slate of drag racing action on Atlanta Motor Speedway's 1/8-mile pit lane dragstrip, fans will also enjoy $1 beer while supplies last. The dollar beer will be sold on the concourse at concession stand N11, located just up the hill from where guests enter at gate 15.
Grandstand gates for O'Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags and the Show-N-Shine open at 6:30 p.m. and nightly drag race eliminations start just after 9:00 p.m. Entry to drag race or for the Show-N-Shine is just $20 or competitors can purchase a combo ticket for $30. Spectator tickets are just $10, and children 5 and under are free.
