As the sun set on the 2024 season of Thursday Thunder, a final night of racing culminated in the crowning of six division champions and several new and returning race winners.

Strategy and gamesmanship has headlined the WJP Investments Pro Division all season and championship night was no different. The battle for the division title was not at the top of the field but in the middle. Garrett Gumm (Brooks, Ga.) entered the race trailing Jensen Jorgensen (Stockbridge, Ga.) by three points and both opted to start at the back of the pack at the 8th and 9th positions respectively to chase passing points.

Hoping to outrun his rival, Gumm needed to finish two spots higher than the 32 car of Jorgensen to claim the title. When the green flag fell Gumm seemed poised for success as he initially climbed the scoring pylon much faster; through the first eight laps Gumm sat in third and had the lead he needed over Jorgensen.

However, the story of the season has been Jorgensen’s long-run speed and that didn’t change on championship night. At the halfway point the defending division champion fought his way past Garrett Gumm and up to a second place finish, earning back-to-back titles.

In a microcosm of The Associates Group Young Lions season, Bryce Sanders (Ola, Ga.) won the final round feature after a hard fought battle with Cole Denton (Pascagoula, Miss.) that saw three lead changes between the pair. Denton’s 2nd place effort was enough to complete his 2024 season as the overall Young Lions Champion by a narrow margin over Sanders.

Despite an opening lap spin that knocked him from the pole to the rear of the field, Kyle Bacon (Buchanan, Ga.) rallied to a 4th place finish to seal the deal on a dominant season in the Semi-Pro division championship. Jackson Reynolds (Marietta, Ga.) joined him in victory lane with his second career Semi-Pro feature victory and earned the runner-up spot in the season championship.

Dallas, Ga.’s Philip Young came into the night with a slim three point lead in the Masters Division over Bill Plemons Jr. (Locust Grove, Ga.). With Plemons right on his back bumper throughout, Young held his position through all 20 laps and claimed the race win and his first career Master division title.

In the Bandits Division, Wyatt Coffey (Waynesboro, Va.) cruised to victory once again bringing home both the race win and overall Bandits win. Several cautions didn’t stop the number 80 car of Bryson Nichols (Hampton, Va.) from wrapping up a sixth win of the season, besting fellow contender Carson Cauble (Salisbury, N.C.) for the Adrenaline Powersports Outlaws title.

In the Chargers Racing Experience, Rhylee Hutchins (Mount Pleasant, N.C.) rolled into victory lane for the first time this season in a Legends car and the Rookie Bandoleros Racing Experience saw Casen Tate (Zebulon, Ga.) take the final checkered flag of the 2024 Thursday Thunder season.
