Atlanta Motor Speedway's 2016 Road Course Championships, will return to Atlanta Motorsports Park in Dawsonville, Georgia Nov. 19 for Week 3 action after hosting its series finale there last September. The venue, a fast, technical 1.14-mile course will add variety to the series and offer drivers a rare opportunity to sharpen their road course racing skills on an unfamiliar layout.
The venue, home to a variety of racing series, karting experiences and several driving schools, will open its doors to officially sanctioned U.S. Legends and Bandolero cars racing for just the second time ever after debuting the AMS program at its facility last year.
On-track action will kick off with practice sessions beginning at 9 a.m. before heat races beginning at 10:15 a.m. Feature races will follow with the Rookie Bandoleros class, a combined Bandits/Outlaws class, the combined Young Lions/Semi-Pro class, the combined Pro/Masters class and finally the Thunder Roadster class.
Pre-registration is available through Nov. 17 at a cost of $40 per driver and $20 for pit/crew passes. Competitors can sign up at the AMS Legends office or by contacting AMS Legends director Ken Ragan. Registrations after Nov. 17 will increase to $50 and $30 respectively and drivers will start in the rear of the field.
Atlanta Motor Speedway has hosted U.S. Legends and Bandolero racing for 19 consecutive years since its inaugural season on the quarter-mile Thunder Ring in 1998. Among its notable alumni, current NASCAR drivers include 2015 Daytona 500 winner Joey Logano, 2014 XFINITY Series champion and current driver of the No. 24 car in the Cup Series Chase Elliott, David Ragan, Reed Sorensen, Austin Dillon and William Byron.
