While this year's July Fourth hot dog eating contest was a spectacle worthy of a national television broadcast, Thursday Thunder fans will witness a whole different level of championship eating when an Alaskan pizza-eating champion performs his talent at the 2017 season finale of the Thursday Thunder Legends Series presented by Papa John's Pizza next Saturday, Aug. 5.
With his brown-bear sidekick tagging along, the Alaskan master of devouring the hearty Italian dish will make the 4,000-mile trek from the wilds of the northern wilderness to challenge one fan in attendance to eat more pizza than he can in the span of one minute, for a chance at taking home a prize.
The pizza-eating contest joins earlier "unbelievable" announcements of a record-breaking giant TV giveaway and pre-race Neil Young musical entertainment planned for the same night in celebration of the final event in this year's 20th Anniversary Season of Thursday Thunder. Further very "real" announcements regarding the unique Saturday-night event will be made in the coming week.
The Thursday Thunder Legends Series presented by Papa John's Pizza continues with Week 9 action on the quarter-mile Thunder Ring tomorrow, July 29, with its first of two consecutive special Saturday editions, before wrapping up the 2017 season with the Aug. 5 finale.
Grandstand spectator tickets for the affordable, family-friendly racing series cost just $5, with children ages 5 and younger are admitted free. Gates open at 6 p.m., and feature races begin just after 7:30 p.m.
