With the first half of the season in the rear-view mirror, drivers hit the gas in pursuit of a division championship. The point standings remained close across all divisions entering round five action of Thursday Thunder.
With the largest field of racers each night, the Semi-Pro division continued to be the most challenging division to find victory lane. Mason Lastra of Tampa, FL outdueled Jason Treschl of Hogansville to earn his second first place trophy of the season. After starting in the third position, Lastra blasted by the front row of drivers to claim the lead and successfully held off the field through multiple restarts to grab the win. Lastra will try to continue to climb in the point standings as the battle for the top spot gets tighter.
Wyatt Coffey of Waynesboro, Virginia extended his lead in the Bandits division standings with a hard-fought victory. After the field was side-by-side off green off an early restart, Coffey shot from the third position to grab the lead off turn two. Coffey would swap the lead six times with Matthew Laprade of New Smyrna Beach, FL throughout the feature, but hang on for his third win of the season.
Canton's Nick Woodall took home his first victory of the season in the WJP Investments Pro feature. Woodall battled Donovan Strauss of Marietta and Gianni Esposito of Dacula for the lead throughout the race and seized the opportunity to grab the lead after a caution between Esposito and Strauss on lap nineteen. Strauss would crawl back into the race for fifth by the closing lap but could get no closer as Woodall found victory lane.
In other action, Macon's Benjamin Jones in the Masters division and Kyle Bacon of Buchanan in the Associates Group Young Lions both took home hardware for the second week in a row. Alison Johnson earned her first victory of the season for the Adrenalin Powersports Outlaws division.
Thursday Thunder action returns to AMS for round six on June 29.
