We're only a few weeks away!
One of the most exciting weekends of the entire year is nearly here, with the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 NASCAR weekend less than three weeks away! Like most years, the buzz and pace around the Speedway is picking up, with our entire staff hard at work to give each and every one of our fans a first-class experience while they are here!
Sure, we've been hosting races here for more than 50 years. But our tradition of exciting racing on a legendary surface will have a whole lot of new elements mixed in with it as well as NASCAR returns to Atlanta!
New Points Structure
The days of a driver being able to ride around and log laps, hoping for a car to come around by the end of the race will be long gone with NASCAR's next stage-based race format! With points at stake all the way through the race, drivers will be up on the wheel, vying for every last available point through every lap of the race!
Each event will be divided up into three segments, with points awarded in all three segments. The Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 will also have bearing on a driver's championship contention. Drivers finishing in the top-10 in the first two segments will earn "playoff points," which they will carry all the way through the Playoffs at the end of the season. Unlike in year's past, every race of the season will have a bearing on a drivers championship hopes, meaning that a driver can help or hurt their shot at a title through the first 26 races of the season.
New Wall Paint
There will be a different look to our track's outside walls during race weekend!
Throughout the turns, fans will easily be able to see a new red, white and blue color scheme of the outside walls, presenting a very picturesque backdrop for a patriotic weekend full of racing!
And A Look Toward The Future…
We'll also close the book on one era at Atlanta Motor Speedway with an eye to the future! This year's race will be the final one on our current racing surface before it's repaved after race weekend!
