The second week of Thursday Thunder feature racing action at Atlanta Motor Speedway got underway Wednesday night as over 80 drivers competed on the quarter-mile Thunder Ring. Initially, the rain forecast threatened competition, however, all eight divisions were able to complete their respective races.
The night’s thrilling racing was highlighted by the WJP Investments Young Lions feature. Isaac Bevin of Louisville, KY, trailed the leader Giovanni Ruggiero of Seekonk, NY, for the majority of the race, but a caution with 4 laps to go set up a late-race restart. Bevin seized the opportunity and made a clever move to pass then-leader Parker Eatmon. From there Bevin didn’t look back, holding off Eatmon to claim victory for the Young Lions division.
Later in the evening, the Outlaw feature showcased a strong battle for the checkered flag. Jacob Bradley of Chapel Hill, NC, started on the pole, but he wouldn’t stay there long. Covington’s own Garrett Erwin passed Bradley right out of the start, but Bradley trailed close behind waiting for the right opportunity to take the top spot back. That opportunity came in the closing laps when Bradley made a great move going into turn 1 to pass Erwin. Erwin made an attempt to reclaim the lead, but it wasn’t enough as Bradley drove into victory lane.
In earlier action, Michael Gannon of Canton, GA, took home The Byron Powersports Semi-Pro feature after multiple cautions, while Beckham Malone of Rock Hill, SC, dominated the Bandits feature race.
The night was capped with The Associates Group Pro Legends race and the Masters feature. Caleb Heady of Shelbyville, KY, absolutely dominated the Pro feature and won handily over the chasing field. The Masters feature was the last race of the night; Bill Plemons Jr. of Locust Grove claimed victory after Phillip Young and Robbie Woodall tangled while battling for the lead.
In other feature action Wednesday night, Emma Britt of McDonough prevailed in the Fr8Auctions Rookie Bandolero feature race after leading from flag to flag, while Luke Yarbrough of Milton claimed victory in the Chargers feature.
Thursday Thunder returns Thursday evening with more thrilling action in the third round of racing in 2021.
